The 2025 WCSLA playoffs are underway!
Game 1 of the best-of-5 semi-final between island rivals Victoria and Nanaimo went Wednesday night with the Shamrocks taking the opener 8-4 at The Q Centre. The hosts jumped out to a 6-1 lead after 20 minutes and never looked back. OneniotekÓ:Wa Maracle (2G, 2A) and Rylee Marsh (1G, 3A) led the attack while Adam Bland held fort, stopping 36 of 40 shots.
Victoria took a 5-0 lead into the second period and hung on for a 10-5 win over Nanaimo in Game 2 Saturday at Frank Crane Arena. The Timbermen's Jake Mickelson led scoring with 3 goals and 1 assist, while the Shamrocks' Bland stopped 35 of 40 shots in net. The Shamrocks completed the sweep by edging the Timbermen 7-6 at The Q Centre Tuesday night, despite being outshot 47-41. Bland was solid in goal for Victoria, stopping 41 shots. Nanaimo’s Andrew Miller (4G) and Luke Ory (4A) led all scorers.
Game 1 of the best-of-5 semi-final between mainland rivals Ladner and Coquitlam went Thursday night with the Pioneers taking the opener 14-9 at Ladner Leisure Centre. The hosts built up an 11-4 lead heading into the 3rd period and withstood an attempted comeback from the Bandits to take the match. Coady Adamson (7A) led the attack while Alex Buque and Matt Hills combined to stop 46 of 55 shots.
Ladner outshot Coquitlam 29-9 in the first period but only led 2-1, then proceeded to dispatch the Bandits 10-5 to take a 2-0 lead in its series Sunday at Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex. Spencer Bromley (4G) and Keegan Kozak (1G, 3A) led the charge for the Pioneers, with Buque stopping 37 of 42 shots. The Pioneers completed the sweep as well Tuesday night by defeating the Bandits 14-8 at the Ladner Leisure Centre. Ladner, led by Bromley (1G, 5A) and Buque (43 saves on 51 shots), never trailed but got a good scare early in the 3rd period when Coquitlam rattled off 3 straight goals to close the gap to 2, but rallied with 5 unanswered tallies to take the contest.
So, for the 3rd straight season, it will be the Pioneers squaring off with the Shamrocks in the best-of-5 league championship. Check the ticker for game times and scores!
