Day 1 at the Presidents Cup

The Ladner Pioneers overcame a 7-4 deficit to open their championship defence with a 10-9 win over the Edmonton Miners at the2023 Presidents Cup at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario.

The Pioneers lead 3-1 after 20 minutes but were outscored 5-1 in the middle frame. After the Miners went up by three half a minute into the third period, Tyler Pace scored his first of 3 goals 30 seconds later. After Austin Shanks cut the margin to two at 3:43, the Miners rallied with a pair of goals to make the score 9-6 with 9 minutes left in regulation, Pace notched his second and third markers, then Jake Carey tied things with just over 5 minutes left. Zach Herreweyers completed the comeback with his first goal of the tournament with 52 seconds on the clock, assisted by Pace.

Pace finished with 3G, 2A, Shanks with 2G, 2A, and Ryan Benesch with 2G, 1A. Sam Clare also scored for the Pioneers, with Christian Del Bianco stopping 28 of 37 shots for the win.

Next up for Ladner are the Kahnawake Mohawks Monday.
