Pioneers at 2026 Presidents Cup
The Ladner Pioneers are 2-2 at the 2026 Presidents Cup National Senior B Lacrosse tournament in Edmonton, AB.
They opened the round-robin Sunday August 30 with their first loss in 2026 - a 12-5 decision to the host Edmonton Miners. The teams were tied at 2 after 20 minutes but the Miners dominated the rest of the way. Haiden Dickson (2G, 1A) led scoring while Keegan Okino stopped 38 of 50 shots. Game 2 was also a defeat - this time to the Newtown Screaming Eagles 11-10. The Pioneers led 9-6 going into the final frame but fell behind 10-9 before Spencer Bromley scored with 6 seconds left to force sudden death overtime, which was won by Newtown 6 minutes in. Dickson again led the attack with 4 goals and 2 assists with Peter Dubenski stopping 51 of 62 shots in net.
Game 3 finally went Ladner’s way, with the WCSLA champs beating the Winnipeg Blizzard 12-6. The Pioneers never trailed in the contest, led by Jaxon Dillon (4G, 1A) and Okino turning aside 42 of 48 shots. The Pioneers moved to .500 in the tournament Wednesday September 2 after a 16-12 victory over the Six Nations Rivermen. Ladner led 7-5 and 10-9 heading into the first and second intermissions and after being tied at 11 with 14 minutes left in regulation, rattled off 5 unanswered goals to put the match away. Dickson was again top scorer with 5 goals and 4 assists while Okino stopped 45 of 57 shots for the win.
The Pioneers face the undefeated Snake Island Muskies in the semi-finals Friday September 4, with the winner to take on the winner of the Edmonton - Newtown match for the National Championship Saturday September 5.
