Playoffs Week 2 - Pioneers Advance

The 2024 WCSLA Playoffs continued this week with three games.

In Game 2 of the best-of-5 semifinals Tuesday evening at Frank Crane Arena, Parker Johnson scored with 1:30 left in regulation time to lift the visiting Victoria Shamrocks past the host Nanaimo Timbermen 12-11 to take a 2-0 lead in the series. Victoria’s Brodie Wade (3G,3A) and Nanaimo’s Jake Mickleson (4G,2A) led scoring while Colin Jeffrey stopped 40 of 48 shots in relief of starter Cody Cook for the win. Game 3 is set for Thursday night at The Q Centre.

Meanwhile in the other semifinal at Ladner Leisure Centre Tuesday, the reigning provincial and national champion Ladner Pioneers kept their season-long undefeated streak alive by beating the North Shore Indians 13-5 and in the process sweeping the series 3-0. Tyler Pace led scoring with 4 goals and 3 assists, with Christian Del Bianco picking up the win in net stopping 30 of 35 shots. The Pioneers advance to the league final for the sixth straight season and await the outcome of the Shamrocks-Timbermen series.
