Week 2 Wrap Up
The second week of the 2026 West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association season opened Wednesday May 20th with the North Shore Indians spoiling the home opener for the New Westminster Salmonbellies with a 13-0 victory. North Shore's Jacob Dunbar led scoring with 4 goals and 2 assists, while Owen Joseph stopped all 30 shots for the rare shutout.
The Indians hosted the Ladner Pioneers Friday May 22nd at their home opener at Harry Jerome Rec Centre, and despite holding down the fort in the first period when the score was tied at 3 after 20 minutes, ended up getting outscored 5-1 and 3-1 over the next two periods en route to an 11-5 defeat. Ladner’s Ryan Jones was the top scorer with 3 goals and 3 assists while Matt Hills turned aside 35 of 40 shots for his second win of the season.
Saturday May 23rd, it took overtime for the Coquitlam Bandits to knock off the Timbermen at Nanaimo Ice Centre 8-7. Although the Bandits dominated in shots (74-47), the score was close the entire match, with Marcello Mannarino scoring the winning goal with 3:09 left on the clock. Mannarino (2G, 2A) and Nanaimo's Jake Mickelson (2G, 2A) led scoring, with Peter Dubenski having a great outing stopping 66 of 72 shots in the T-men net. Tristan Lomas stopped 40 of 47 shots in the Bandits net.
The week wrapped up Sunday May 24th with the host Bandits take out the Salmonbellies 17-6. The score favored Coquitlam 3-2 after twenty minutes, but a 9 goal eruption in the middle stanza sealed the weekend sweep by the Bandits, who were led by Mannarino (1G, 7A) and Connor Goodwin (4G, 3A). Connor Nichols stopped 29 of 35 shots for Coquitlam who moved to 2-1 on the season while New West dropped to 0-2.
