Week 6 Wrap-Up
Week 6 in the West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association has a full slate of games.
Wednesday night at Queen’s Park Arena, Ladner visited the Salmonbellies and came away with a 23-0 win. The Pioneers jumped out to a 10-0 lead after 20 minutes and never looked back against a undermanned New West squad. Matt Hills stopped all 17 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season while Spencer Bromley led scoring with 3 goals and 4 assists.
Thursday night, the Pioneers hosted Nanaimo at the Ladner Leisure Centre and defeated the Timbermen 25-3. Haiden Dickson had a huge night with 6 goals and 6 assists, and Christian Del Bianco turned aside 26 of 29 shots in the Ladner net.
Friday night North Shore welcomed New Westminster at Harry Jerome Rec Centre and handed the Salmonbellies their 9th straight loss 16-8. Wil McNulty and Drew Kask each had 4 goals and 1 assist to lead the Indians’ charge, with Cheyton Hetman and Riku Jokela combining to stop 42 of 50 shots.
Saturday had a nooner featuring Victoria at Ladner and the Pioneers won their 10th straight by a score of 12-2. The game was close the first 20 minutes, with the hosts taking a 1-0 lead into the intermission. The Pioneers exploded for 6 unanswered goals in the second period and never looked back. Dickson (3G,2A) and Bromley (1G,4A) led scoring and Del Bianco stopped 46 of 48 shots for his league-leading 7th win. The late afternoon game saw the Indians rally from 2 goals down to force overtime, only to have the Doug Langlois of the Timbermen score with 3:22 left in overtime to take a 12-11 decision at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. Grady Holmes (3G,3A) led T-men scoring with Pete Dubenski stopping 47 of 58 shots for the win.
Sunday afternoon the Shamrocks and the Bellies closed out the week at The Q Centre with Victoria winning 25-3. Adam Golia (4G,4A) and Jackson Boyd (3G,5A) led scoring and Cody Cook stopped 20 of 23 shots between the pipes.
After six weeks of play, Ladner's Tyler Pace continues to lead scoring with 56 points and 38 assists, Ladner's Haiden Dickson leads with 29 goals, and the Pioneers' Christian Del Bianco continues to lead in save percentage (0.896) and goals against average (4.24).
Week 7 features only two games. Wednesday night, the Timbermen visit the Shamrocks at Panorama Rec Centre, and Thursday night, the Indians hook up with the Pioneers at Ladner Leisure Centre.
