Week 9 Results

Week 9 of the 2023 WCSLA season kicked off with the Ladner Pioneers clinching top spot in the standings with a 16-3 victory over the Salmonbellies Wednesday night in New Westminster. Spencer Bromley (5G, 1A) led scoring, with Matt Hills stopping 18 of 21 shots for his 4th win.

Friday night on the North Shore, the Indians added to New West’s woes with a 12-2 win. John Killcommons and Tristan Kirkham (3G, 1A) and Maurice Kelly (1G, 3A) led the attack, with Connor Nichols huge in goal, stopping 33 of 37 shots.  

The Salmonbellies’ campaign came to a close Saturday afternoon at Queen's Park Arena, with a 9-7 loss to visiting Nanaimo. The hosts hung in there until the final 1:34, when Doug Langlois broke a 7-7 tie and Aidan O’Dwyer added an empty netter to seal the deal. Both players had a pair of goals, as did Tyson Black to lead scorers, while Jeremy Funk turned aside 25 of 32 shots for his 3rd win.

Sunday afternoon, the Pioneers extended their win streak to 12 games with a 25-4 rout of the Timbermen in Nanaimo. League leading scorer Tyler Pace had a monster outing with 5 goals and 7 assists, while Dean Fairfall had 6 goals and Spencer Bromley 5. Christian Del Bianco returned to the net and stopped 33 of 37 shots. The later game had the Shamrocks win their second in a row 9-6 over the Indians in Victoria. Connor Leies led scoring with 4 goals and 3 assists, with Colin Jeffrey stopping 40 of 46 shots for his 2nd win.

Ladner’s Pace (32G, 60A, 92 pts) continues to lead in all major scoring categories, while Del Bianco (0.864 Sv%, 4.76 GAA, 8W) continues to lead in all goaltending categories.
